Where to holiday in October flying from Poland

In October the Mediterranean closes its season from north to south, while Egypt and the Canaries hit their peak and Dubai and the tropics open their winter sun. We break down where from Poland you can still definitely swim, where the water is best, and where it pays to wait — with prices, flight times, weather caveats and entry rules.

Where to go 11.08.2026
Where to holiday in October flying from Poland

The Mediterranean closes in October like a zip fastener, from north to south. Early in the month you're still swimming in Antalya and Cyprus; by the end, only the Red Sea, the Canaries and the tropics are a sure bet. Book a "beach in October" for the 5th and for the 25th, and those could turn out to be two different countries. At the same time, while some destinations are fading, others are just lighting up: Egypt and the Atlantic Canaries are entering their best season, while Dubai and the far-flung tropics are switching on their winter sun. So the question in October isn't "is it still warm" — it's "what's closing, what's at its peak, and how far are you willing to fly for a guarantee of warm water".

Below we break October destinations from Poland into groups: where you can still definitely swim in the Mediterranean (though better early in the month), where the best water in reach currently is (Egypt and the Canaries), where winter sun is starting up (Dubai), and where to fly further for the tropics. For each: sea temperature, flight time, an indicative weekly price, an honest caveat and the entry rules. At the end: a comparison table, a checklist and the visa section.

How October works: what's closing, what's at its peak

October is a transitional month, and it's easiest to read in three groups. First: the Mediterranean is still warm at its southern edge (Turkey, Cyprus, southern Greece), but the season closes week by week, and the gap between the start and end of the month is noticeable. Second: the Red Sea and the Atlantic Canaries are entering their best season — the heat has broken, the water is at its peak. Third: winter sun switches on — Dubai becomes comfortable, and the far-flung tropics open their dry season.

Destination (October) Air Sea Season status
Turkey, Mediterranean (Antalya) +27–28°C +25–26°C Closing by month's end
Cyprus +27°C +25°C One of the last in the Mediterranean
Southern Greece (Crete, Rhodes) +24–26°C +23–24°C Closing, the south holds out longer
Egypt, the Red Sea +30–32°C +27°C Best season, at its peak
The Canaries (Atlantic) +26–28°C +23°C Year-round, warm water
Dubai, the UAE +33–35°C +30°C Start of the winter season
Zanzibar +30°C +28°C A good dry spell

The practical takeaway: if you want to swim specifically in the Mediterranean, take early October and the southern edge — Turkey or Cyprus. If you need a guarantee of warm water with no caveats, choose Egypt or the Canaries. If you're willing to fly further, choose Dubai or the tropics. And the month's main trap is that "October" behaves differently on the 5th and the 25th, especially in the Mediterranean.

Still swimmable in the Mediterranean: Turkey, Cyprus, southern Greece

This is the tail end of the golden season: the sea has warmed all summer, the heat has broken, the crowds have thinned, and prices sit noticeably below August's. The Turkish Mediterranean coast (Antalya, Belek, Side) holds the water at +25–26°C in the first half of the month — the best all-inclusive option with still-warm sea and low prices. Cyprus is one of the last Mediterranean islands where you can reliably swim in October: water around +25°C, plenty of sun. Southern Greece (Crete, Rhodes) runs a touch cooler but holds out longer than the northern islands. There's one shared caveat: by late October the Mediterranean season closes, and the second half of the month becomes a weather lottery.

Sea: +23–26°C in the first half of the month, cooler by late October

Flight from Warsaw: Antalya ~3 hrs 20 min, Cyprus ~3 hrs 30 min, Crete ~3 hrs, Rhodes ~2 hrs 40 min

7 nights / 2 people: Turkey PLN 3,000–7,500, Cyprus PLN 3,800–9,000, southern Greece PLN 3,500–8,500

Who is it for: anyone wanting the Mediterranean and all-inclusive at low prices — but book the first half of the month

Who is it for

The best choice for anyone who specifically wants the Mediterranean and the all-inclusive format, especially in Turkey, and who can travel in the first half of October. Cyprus suits anyone wanting to stretch the swimming season a bit longer. Not worth it to book late October in the Mediterranean expecting a guaranteed swim: the season is closing, sea and air are cooling, and some hotels are preparing for their winter pause. If your trip falls at month's end, choose Egypt or the Canaries instead.

The best month of the year: Egypt and the Red Sea

For Egypt, October is arguably the best month of the year: the exhausting summer heat eases, the air holds a comfortable +30–32°C, and the Red Sea stays warm at +27°C, with the same famous visibility and coral reefs. Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh work year-round, but it's specifically in autumn that the combination of "manageable air plus warm sea plus the region's best diving and snorkelling" peaks. It's also one of the most affordable destinations with reliably warm water and an all-inclusive system. The Red Sea doesn't follow the European calendar — people swim there in November too, and through winter.

Sea: +27°C, the reefs and visibility intact; the heat has already broken

Flight from Warsaw: ~4 hrs 30 min to Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh

7 nights / 2 people: PLN 3,500–8,500 — excellent value for money

Who is it for: snorkelling and diving fans, families, anyone wanting warm sea without the gamble, at a reasonable price

Who is it for

The best October choice for most people: warm sea guaranteed, the reefs superb, prices affordable, and all-inclusive well established. Ideal for families, divers and anyone who needs warm water without a gamble. Not worth it to go to Egypt for a rich beach-town life beyond the hotel or a varied urban scene: the holiday here is resort-and-hotel based, and free public beaches and infrastructure beyond the complexes are poorly developed. You come for the sea and the reef, not for strolls along a promenade.

Year-round: the Canaries and Atlantic sun

The Canary Islands, in the Atlantic off the coast of Africa, work year-round, and October is one of their best months: thanks to thermal lag the ocean is warmest specifically in early autumn (+23°C), the air holds +26–28°C, and European school holidays are already behind, so there are fewer people and lower prices than at peak. Tenerife and Gran Canaria offer an all-round holiday with infrastructure, Fuerteventura beaches and surfing, Lanzarote volcanic landscapes. Important caveat: the Atlantic is cooler and livelier than the Mediterranean, the trade winds blow, and open beaches can have a swell. But as a guarantee of warm sun in October, the Canaries are close to foolproof.

Ocean: +23°C — warm thanks to the lag; cooler and livelier than the Mediterranean

Flight from Warsaw: ~5 hrs 30 min direct (seasonal) or with a connection

7 nights / 2 people: PLN 3,500–9,000; no general tourist tax in 2026

Who is it for: anyone wanting a guarantee of sun and warmth in October, surfing fans and active holidaymakers

Who is it for

An excellent choice for anyone wanting guaranteed warmth and sun without the Mediterranean's end-of-season gamble, and for surfing fans and lovers of volcanic scenery. Choose the sunny south of the islands. Not worth it to head to the Canaries for calm, Mediterranean-style warm sea: the ocean here is bracing, and wind and swell on open beaches are the Atlantic at work, not a sheltered cove. For calm warm water, choose Egypt or the Mediterranean instead.

The start of winter sun: Dubai and the UAE

In October the Emirates emerge from summer's scorching heat and open their season. Early in the month it's still hot (+35°C and above), but by late October a comfortable +32°C settles in, and the sea in the Gulf is warm, nearly bath-like, up to +30°C. Dubai isn't just a beach — it's skyscrapers, water parks, shopping and desert excursions, so the destination works well for anyone who wants more than a sun lounger. Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah are calmer alternatives. October is cheaper than the peak winter season, but the weather is already comfortable in the second half of the month.

Sea: +30°C, very warm; the air is more comfortable by late October than at the start

Flight from Warsaw: ~5 hrs 30 min – 6 hrs, usually direct

7 nights / 2 people: PLN 4,500–12,000; cheaper than the peak winter season

Who is it for: anyone wanting warm sea plus a city, entertainment and the desert, couples and families

Who is it for

A good choice for anyone wanting warm sea plus a city, entertainment and the desert, not just lying on a beach. The second half of October is more comfortable than the first. Not worth it to go to Dubai in early October if you cope badly with intense heat: +35°C and high humidity are still possible in the first weeks. It's not a budget destination either — food and entertainment beyond the hotel cost noticeably more than in the Mediterranean.

Further afield and exotic: Zanzibar, the Maldives, Cape Verde

If you're willing to fly further and pay more, October opens up several far-flung destinations with warm ocean.

  • Zanzibar. October is a good dry spell between the rainy seasons: air at +30°C, ocean at +28°C, white sand. Caveat: strong tides on the east coast expose the seabed, so for swimming it matters which side of the island you choose and how you plan around the tides. Flight from Poland with a connection, ~10 hours in transit.
  • The Maldives. October is the shoulder season (the tail of the south-west monsoon): rain is possible, but prices are noticeably below the peak winter season. The ocean is warm (+28–29°C), the underwater world superb. An option for anyone willing to risk some rain in exchange for the price.
  • Cape Verde. Atlantic islands off the coast of Africa with a year-round season: air at +28°C, ocean warm, but windy with a swell, much like the Canaries. A paradise for surfing and lovers of long beaches.
  • The Dominican Republic. The Caribbean with warm ocean year-round, but October is the tail end of the Atlantic hurricane season: direct hits are rare, but the risk of rainy, windy days is higher than in winter.

Quick comparison: where to go in October

Figures are indicative, for a 7-night trip for two departing Poland. The key columns are the reliability of warm sea and flight time — these are what decide it in October.

Destination Sea Flight Reliability of warmth Visa (Poland) 7 nights / 2 people
Turkey (Antalya) +25–26°C ~3 hrs 20 min Early month No visa PLN 3,000–7,500
Cyprus +25°C ~3 hrs 30 min High (Schengen) No visa (EU) PLN 3,800–9,000
Southern Greece +23–24°C ~2 hrs 40 min – 3 hrs Moderate No visa (EU) PLN 3,500–8,500
Egypt +27°C ~4 hrs 30 min Very high Visa on arrival/online PLN 3,500–8,500
The Canaries +23°C ~5 hrs 30 min Very high No visa (EU) PLN 3,500–9,000
Dubai, the UAE +30°C ~5 hrs 30 min – 6 hrs Very high No visa/on arrival PLN 4,500–12,000
Zanzibar +28°C ~10 hrs (connection) High Visa required PLN 6,000–13,000

In short: for still-warm Mediterranean sea and cheaper all-inclusive, choose Turkey and Cyprus, but in the first half of the month. For guaranteed warm water with no caveats, choose Egypt (the best month) and the Canaries. For winter sun plus a city and entertainment, choose Dubai. For the tropics, Zanzibar and the Maldives, if you're willing to fly further. October's guiding rule: the closer your trip falls to month's end, the further south and further out it pays to aim.

Pre-booking checklist:

  • Look at the specific dates: early October in the Mediterranean is still summer, late October is already a gamble. The later the dates, the further south you should aim.
  • Need a guarantee of warm water with no risk? Choose Egypt or the Canaries, not the tail end of the Mediterranean season.
  • Want cheaper all-inclusive with still-warm sea? Turkey in the first half of the month.
  • Check the document and visa for your passport: some destinations are Schengen (Cyprus, Greece, the Canaries), others aren't (Egypt, Turkey, the UAE, Zanzibar).
  • For far-flung destinations (Zanzibar, the Maldives), factor in the shoulder season and rainfall — that's the price of the lower cost.
  • In the Canaries and Cape Verde, expect wind and swell (the Atlantic), not Mediterranean-style calm.

Common mistakes:

  • Taking late October in the Mediterranean as a guarantee of swimming. The season closes from north to south; the second half of the month in Turkey and Greece is already a weather lottery.
  • Ignoring the difference between dates within the month. "October" on the 5th and the 25th means different water and different air, especially in the Mediterranean.
  • Expecting calm, warm sea from the Canaries and Cape Verde. This is the Atlantic: cooler, with wind and swell, not a sheltered cove.
  • Flying to the Maldives or the Dominican Republic in October without knowing about the shoulder season. A lower price — but a higher risk of rain; it's a conscious trade-off.
  • Going to Dubai in early October while coping badly with heat. +35°C and high humidity are still possible in the first weeks; the second half of the month is more comfortable.
  • Not checking the visa against your passport. October's list mixes Schengen and non-Schengen countries with different entry rules.

Entry rules when flying from Poland

October destinations split into Schengen countries (rules are shared, Polish residency status applies) and non-Schengen ones (nationality on the passport decides). Below is the logic by group; always confirm the specifics before travelling, as rules change.

  • Schengen (Cyprus joining the shared rules in stages during 2026, Greece, the Canaries as part of Spain): Polish and EU citizens enter on a passport or national ID card; Ukrainian citizens enter visa-free on a biometric passport (90/180), with an online authorisation needed once ETIAS launches by late 2026; Belarusian citizens need a Schengen visa or a Polish residence permit. The EES system, recording biometric data, is being rolled out at Schengen borders.
  • Egypt (non-Schengen): a visa is required for all Europeans, including Poles — an e-visa arranged in advance or one on arrival; for travellers staying only in South Sinai, a free 15-day stamp with a limited zone is available. Polish residency status has no bearing on entry to Egypt.
  • Turkey (non-Schengen): Polish and EU citizens get visa-free entry for up to 90 days, but need a physical passport or national ID card (mObywatel isn't accepted at the border). Ukrainian citizens get 90 days, Belarusian citizens 30 days visa-free.
  • The UAE (non-Schengen): for Polish and many EU citizens, visa-free entry or a free visa on arrival; Ukrainian and Belarusian citizens have different rules — check in advance.
  • Zanzibar (Tanzania) and the Maldives: Tanzania requires a visa (arranged online or on arrival); the Maldives offer a free 30-day visa on arrival to almost everyone. Nationality decides, not Polish residency status.

The verdict

So where should you fly in October from Poland?

If you still want to catch a warm Mediterranean and cheaper all-inclusive, take Turkey or Cyprus, but in the first half of the month. If you need a guarantee of warm water with no caveats at all, choose Egypt, for which October is arguably the best month of the year, or the year-round Canaries with their Atlantic sun. If you're dreaming of winter sun plus a city, shopping and the desert, choose Dubai, comfortable from the second half of October. And if you're willing to fly further and pay more, Zanzibar and the Maldives open their tropical season, albeit with rainfall caveats.

One last tip:

The most important thing in October is to look at the specific dates, not the month as a whole. The closer your trip falls to the end of October, the further south and further out it pays to aim: the Mediterranean is closing, while the Red Sea, the Canaries and the tropics are only gaining momentum. Decide first on your required reliability of warmth and your acceptable flight time — and the right destination will follow almost by itself.
